70% of Latin American youth to work in services by 2030

A recent study conducted by Ayuda en Acción and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) projects that by 2030, 70% of youth in Latin America will be employed in the services sector. This shift reflects a growing trend in the region, where economies are transitioning from being predominantly agricultural to more diversified and service-oriented.

The report highlights that the services sector, which includes areas such as tourism, retail, and information technology, is rapidly expanding and becoming a key source of employment for young people. As digitalization progresses and the global economy transforms, the demand for skills in this sector is also increasing, opening new opportunities for youth in the region.

However, despite the opportunities, the study also points out significant challenges. Many young people face issues such as informal employment, lack of adequate training, and insufficient social protection. These factors can limit their ability to access quality and stable jobs.

CEPAL has emphasized the importance of implementing policies that support youth training and skill development, as well as fostering a labor environment that promotes job formalization. Additionally, there is a need to focus on innovation and the adaptation of labor skills to the changing demands of the market.

With the projected growth of the services sector, it is essential for both governments and businesses to collaborate to ensure that young people are prepared to face the challenges of the future labor market.
